This is an axample of a "glass & brass" waistcoat button dating to  the 1850 - 1880 time frame.  This one originally had a clear glass center, but the ground action over the years frosted it. It measures 20mm.   I took several photos in different lighting to give you a feel of how the button looks. The ones with the flash tend to "yellow" the face. The two on the right are more typical of how the glass looks.
