I am new to button collecting and would like a recommendation on a good book that would help me learn about the terminology with pictures so I can understand better.  I have the big book on buttons, and also button Materials A-Z but it assumes I know the language.  any recommendations?  thanks so much.  Sandra

Greetings Sandra... Welcome to the forum!  The Big Book of Buttons has a lot of good general information on a lot of different types of button, but it doesn't really go into as much depth as I would like to see. Are you looking for information on any particular style of button?

I really like older buttons and seem to enjoy the glass and metal buttons most.  Since I am so new to this, I want to learn all I can.  It seems like the back of the buttons can tell you a lot but need to understand all the terminology with picture examples.  thanks

If you are interested in metal buttons and their backmarks, I would highly recommend:

American Military Button Makers & Dealers; Their Backmarks & Dates
2006 edition  by William F McGuin.

To compliment it,  I  would highly recommend:

Record of American Uniform and Historical Buttons
1997 edition by Alphaeus H. Albert

If you are interested in old work clothes buttons, I would suggest:

A Descriptive Catalogue of Pictorial Overall Buttons, Wobble Shank
2017 edition prepared for The National Button Society by Louella Yeargain, Ray Yeargain, and Jerry DeHay

I have a couple of books for sale that mostly deal with buttons from the UK, but they give a very good overview of buttons in general:

Otherwise, I would suggest going to Amazon and typing "Button Collecting" in the search bar, and reading the reviews for the books that pop up.
