I would appreciate a period date on this imported flat button with a London back mark that I excavated in Danville, Virginia two years ago. It might predate the founding of the town itself.

Your button dates to the early 1800's, but it may be difficult to trace its maker. I see some lettering at the bottom, but can't make out what it says.
